About N.S.S. In Brief

National Service Scheme is one of the important community services. The main purpose of this activity is to understand and identify the needs and problems of the community and involve students in problem solving process. The goal of NSS is education through community service and community service through education. Taking into consideration the importance of National Service Scheme College has established the separate NSS unit in 2006. Throughout the year NSS unit of the college has organized a number of programmes. This activity performed under two heads i.e. Regular Activities and Special Winter Camp.

OBJECTIVES

• To practice national integration and social harmony
• To understand the community in which the volunteers work
• To understand themselves in relation to the community in which they live
• To develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibilities
• To utilize their knowledge in finding practical solution to individual and community problems
• To develop competence required for group living and sharing of responsibilities
• To acquire the leadership qualities and democratic attitude
• To develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters


Symbol of NSS
The symbol of the National Service Scheme, as appearing on the cover page of this Manual is based on the 'Rath' wheel of the Konark Sun Temple sitooted in Orissa. These giant wheels of the Sun Temple portray the cycle of creation, preservation and release, and signify the movement in life across time and space, The design of the symbol, a simplified form of the Sun-chariot wheel primarily depicts movement. The wheel signifies the progressive cycle of life, It stands for continuity as well as change and implies the continuous striving of NSS for social transformation and upliftment.

NSS Badge
The NSS symbol is embossed on the NSS badge, The NSS volunteers wear it while undertaking any programme of community service, The Konark wheel in the symbol has eight bars which represent the 24 hours of the day, Hence, the badge reminds the wearer to be in readiness for service of the nation round the clock i.e. for 24 hours, The Red colour in the badge indicates that the NSS volunteers are full of blood i.e. lively, active, energetic and full of high spirit. The navy blue colour indicates the cosmos of which the NSS is a tiny part, ready to contribute its share for the welfare of the mankind.

NSS Day
NSS was formally launched in 1969, the birth centenary year of the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi. Therefore, 24th September is celebrated every year as NSS Day with appropriate programmes and activities. The NSS unit of the college is also going to organize the NSS day by organizing the different programmes such as blood donation camp, Swachta Abhiyan etc.

Annual Special Winter Camps
Every year college is going to organize the special Winter Camp in rural, slum areas of the Jalgaon district. During the seven days programme, NSS volunteers rendered a great service by doing Shramdan. Different resource persons and college faculty members delivered lectures on various important topics. Special Winter Camp is very much useful to the students for overall personality development. Other than this programme so many activities are carried out by NSS unit throughout the year.
